Results using an on-line separated beam of ¹⁹Ne ( $\tau _{1/2}$ = 17s)

A useful reference point has been provided by an experiment in which a beam of almost 10⁹ particles/sec of ¹⁹Ne induced fusion-evaporation reactions on a ⁴⁰Ca target [1]. A large radioactive background was apparent, and different methods of subtracting it off-line were assessed and compared [1,2].
