Event 2: Radiation, radioactivity and its uses

10th March - University of Surrey
16th March - Royal Holloway, University of London
22nd March - Aylesbury High School, Buckinghamshire
23rd March - University of Southampton
25th March - University of Sussex
19th April - Queen Mary, University of London
22nd April - University of Kent

Cost: Free (a £50 deposit is required, returned on the day)

Financial Assistance: Financial assistance with transportation costs and cover teachers is available to AimHigher target schools. Please contact us for more information. If your school is not an AimHigher target school but you require financial assistance then contact us and we may be able to help.

Student activity provisional timetable
Time (approx) Student Activities
12:30 Registration
13:00 Walk through the electromagnetic spectrum - a talk on the different parts of the electromagnetic spectrum and their uses (50 mins)
14:00 Group activities - the students are separated into groups of 10 and participate in 5 different short activities on topics ranging from half life to the use of radiation in medicine (90 mins)
15:30 Wrap up - Students return to lecture theatre and interactive voting systems are used to quiz the students (30 mins)
16:00 Depart

There will also be a continuing professional development programme for the teachers in the evenings. Further details here.
