What is Physics? Taster Session

15th September - University of Southampton, AM and PM sessions available

22nd September - University of Sussex, AM and PM sessions available
23rd September - Royal Holloway, University of London, AM and PM sessions available
24th September - Royal Holloway, University of London, AM and PM sessions available
22nd November - Queen Mary, University of London, AM and PM sessions available
23rd November - Queen Mary, University of London, AM and PM sessions available

AM sessions run 09.30 - 12.30 and PM sessions run 13.00 - 16.00

Cost: Free

Financial Assistance: Financial assistance with transportation costs and cover teachers is available. Please contact us for more information.

Who to bring: Each school can bring up to 40 students to this event. The event is aimed at students hoping to achieve A*-C grades

Student activity provisional timetable
Time (AM/PM) Student Activities
09:30/13:00 A talk on energy all around us
10:15/13:45 Who's going to keep the lights on - an exhibition of hands on demonstrations relating to energy and heat transfer
12:00/15:30 Wrap up - Students return to lecture theatre and interactive voting systems are used to quiz the students
12:30/16:00 Depart

Lunch is not provided but arrangements can be made to eat packed lunches on campus

One of the demonstrations in the exhibitions shows how electricity is generated from a coil of wire and magnets. A video explaining the demonstration can be found here.
